The Sunflower Wish

Ever since he was little, he'd always wanted to feel warmth, wanted to escape all of the pain that followed him, as well as the wind which dusted his pale cheeks. He wanted to get away, and the only way to get away fully, was to escape where to where the sunflowers grow. To where the sun's always shining.

He can see her. The girl who loves sunflowers, even when her land was so much more beautiful than the fragile sunflower in her hands. She was related to Alfred in the fact that she was the representative of Alaska, the farthest state North. That means, no matter how hard he wanted, he should never get to well know the girl who he sees daily.

As time continues, his hope and his wish grows stronger, but his link to humanity starts to dwindle. He grows more and more distant, even from his own sisters....granted they never were close as they should be, but that's not the point. He wanted friends, but being the cold person he was, he drove everyone away.

Well, almost everyone. Another meeting was about to start when the five states came in. America had been doing this for a while, inviting five of his states to come into the meeting to watch how they were done. Yet, nothing ever did get done.

His head was faced out the window, staring out into the light when he heard a chair move. He turned his head to see her. She smiled at him, her eyes twinkling as she speaks. He couldn't help but smile.

"Hello Ivan," she called softly, "How was your morning?" He chuckled slightly, he never was really good at small talk, but maybe she could help him.

"It's been alright," he said softly, "I'd really wish I could have some sunflowers at home...and even right now though." She giggled.

"So you want to live somewhere warm," she asked, pulling something from her fluffy over coat, "That makes to of us." She hands him a sunflower, a bit bent, but otherwise perfect. At certain points in the sunlight, the flower seemed to shine. A smile appears on his lips, a soft warm seeming to spread without him.

"Spasibo," he said tucking the sunflower in the crook of his elbow, giving him the ability to smell the sweet flower whenever he pleased. He dips his head into the flower, but he doesn't inhale the smell of the flower fully. Instead, he catches himself looking past/over the petals of the flower to the girl, who was now talking with the representative of Hawaii.

The warm feeling seemed to spread even more, till he heard something drop. He looked down, quickly snatched up, and put his heart back in his chest before anyone could realize.

He smiled as he saw a batch of sunflowers in his chair. She had been giving him them each day, followed by a simple conversation, but today was different. She didn't show up. When Alfred walked in with no states, everyone knew something was up.

"Due to a few...circumstances, I will not be inviting states to our meetings anymore," he announced, fixing his glasses. That one sentence caused a catastrophe, bigger than what any of them had ever seen.

Arthur immediately started yelling why, & Alfred calmly answered everything he asked. Kiku, who never really talked, was starting to get pretty loud. Things were getting outta hand, and it was all over a few states.

He felt his heart grow heavy, falling the same times as his dark glare. He needed to leave before he'd do something he'd regret. He got up and outta his chair & started heading to the door, when Francis came in his way. With one simple word, KOL, the French man cowered back and let him go.

He needed to get away...to make a wish.

He was sitting on the cold ground, staring at his feet, the last sunflower in his hand. All of the sunflowers he was touching that day had died, all except the one in his hand. The one that's bent, the one that sparkles softly. The first one she had ever given him.

Well, it didn't die as quick as the others, but it was dying slowly. It's petals were wilting, the bend in the stem getting worse. Tears started to fill on the edges of his eyes. He'd been making the same wish for hours, no, days now, and nothing seemed to change.

He had finally felt warmth that he has so deeply longed for. Whether it be the flower in his hands, or the girl who gave it to him, he felt it. But now, thanks to America, his warmth has disappeared. He could always catch a glimpse of her, but it was never enough to bring back that warmth.

His gaze went to the sunflower clutched in his hands. It had wilted dramatically & was still getting worse. He closed his eyes, took a breath, & as the sunflower died, made his wish one last time.

A pair of brown thick boots appeared into his view, and a voice started calling his name. Confused, his gaze slowly followed up, until he saw exactly who it was. It was her!

"Hey, I came to see you," she explained, "I knew how happier you were when you saw me, so I decided to see you." He started feeling the warmth spread throughout him again. He got up onto his feet, grew closer to her, & hugged her close.

She wrapped her arms around him and hugged him back. Warmth growing twice as fast, the warmth he wanted. The warmth he dreamed for.

All because of one
